Also, the terms used in baseball darts come from the actual baseball game. So, it’s necessary for you to know these common terms:

  • Inning(s): this means the round(s) you are playing
  • Run(s): this is how you call point(s) in a baseball darts game

How to Play Baseball Darts: The Basic Rules

The setup for this game is pretty simple. Now, let’s move on to the steps to play baseball darts.

Determine Who Goes First

Each team or player takes a turn to throw at the dartboard. The one who hit the closest to the bullseye will go first. The second closest will follow right after, so forth until the furthest goes last.

Hit The Right Target

Like a normal baseball game, there are 9 innings (rounds) in a game of baseball darts, from inning 1 to inning 9. In each inning, players take turns throwing darts at the right section on the dartboard that has the same number as the inning.

For example, in the first inning, you have to throw three darts at the number 1 segments on the board. In the second inning, you have to throw at the number 2 segments. In the third inning, you have to throw at the number 3 segments on the board. And so forth until finishing the last inning.

If you don’t hit the right target, you don’t get any runs (points).

Score as Many Points as Possible

The scoring system in the baseball darts is different from the common 301 or 501 darts. It’s simpler, you can expect.

When you hit a single section on the dartboard, you get 1 run. You hit a double section, you get 2 runs. You hit a triple section, you get 3 runs. The bullseye doesn’t give any run (but you can modify the rules as long as all players agree).

Which team/player has the most runs in total after 9 innings wins the game.

Variations to Play Baseball Darts

With the basic rules above, you can play a fun game with your friends. But if you want to make it even more challenging and fun, here are some variations.

Add a twist in the 7th inning

To make the game more unpredictable, you can add a “7th inning stretch rule.” Players who cannot score at least 1 run in the 7th will have their entire score cut in half. Let’s say you have 60 runs, and you miss all the darts in the 7th inning, then your score will be reduced to only 30 runs.

Use a specialized baseball dartboard

Although you can still play baseball darts with a regular dartboard, there’s one that is specialized for this game. It’s designed to look like a baseball field with many different areas and the rules are similar to a baseball game. For those who have already familiar with baseball, this should be a great choice for darts.
