Winmau Blade 6 Triple Core vs Unicorn Eclipse Ultra: The Similarities

1. Innovative look

Both products have a new fresh look compared to other traditional boards. Both have a vein-free surface.

Besides the PDC-approved logo, the numbers on their number ring are made flat with a new modern font. The numbers of the Blade 6 Triple Core have a grey color while those of the Unicorn Eclipse Ultra are white. We personally love their new innovative look!

2. Thin spider

Quality boards must have a thin and staple-free spider or wiring to minimize bounce-outs. Both the Triple Core and Eclipse Ultra have this. There’s no major gap in the performance of the two boards’ spiders. They are sturdy and hold up very well against a high playing frequency.

But there’s something else better about the Unicorn Eclipse Ultra. You can see there are some extra wires coming out of the border of the double ring on the Blade 6. The Unicorn Eclipse Ultra doesn’t have these extra “parts”, giving it a cleaner look and reducing the chances of darts hitting and damaging the wireframe.

3. Great durability

Unicorn boards sometimes get a bad reputation for wearing out too quickly. But this seems to be significantly improved with the Eclipse Ultra model. No more segments and fibers coming out of the surface after a few months.

We and others in the network have used both boards, Blade 6 Triple Core and Eclipse Ultra, and agree that they are durable. The lifespan ranges from 1 to many years with regular maintenance efforts. Remember to rotate your board, the more you play, the more you should rotate.

Winmau Blade 6 Triple Core vs Unicorn Eclipse Ultra: The Differences

1. Use for professional tournaments

The two dartboards we’re discussing are more than enough for casual plays with friends or professional practice.

But did you know that the PDC and Winmau have made a 5-year partnership to use the Blade 6 Triple Core exclusively for PDC events? So, if you want something that is closest to what the top players are practicing with, go for the Triple Core!

2. Firmness

Surprisingly, the Unicorn Eclipse Ultra has a harder surface. This makes darts harder to penetrate and stick on the surface. But as time goes on, fibers will get loosen up and darts will penetrate more easily. If you’re a hard thrower, meaning someone who throws with much force, this board is ideal for you.

On the other hand, although it’s said to have 3 layers of sisal, the firmness of the Triple Core is quite neutral. The outer layer has a low compression so that darts can penetrate more easily. If you are a beginner, a casual player, or someone who throws with less force, the Winmau Blade 6 Triple Core can always be a great choice in terms of firmness.

3. Self-healing

Due to the hard surface, you can still see some small holes after playing with the Unicorn Eclipse Ultra. But when the fibers get softer over time, this will improve. So, the more you play, the better the self-healing will get.

Meanwhile, the Blade 6 Triple Core heals faster. This may be due to the lower-compressed outer layer of sisal, giving the fibers the ability to return to their place quicker when darts are pulled out.

4. Price

The price gap is there but it’s not much. The Unicorn Eclipse Ultra is actually the one that is slightly more expensive, around $10 more than the Winmau Blade 6 Triple Core. Is the price gap worth it? It really comes down to personal preferences. You can base on our reviews about their differences to make your decision.

By the way, if you buy on Amazon, remember to check whether their prices are discounted.
